A Comprehensive Review of the Samsung S22 Ultra: Design, Display, and Features

The Samsung S22 Ultra is a flagship smartphone that offers top-of-the-line specifications and features. After using the device for six months, I wanted to share my thoughts on its design, display, and other features. In this article, I will provide an in-depth review of the S22 Ultra, along with some tips to help you make the most out of your phone. I will also compare it with its competitors and the S22+ to give you a comprehensive overview of this premium smartphone.

Design and Ergonomics:

When it comes to buying a smartphone, many people focus on specs and features, but overlook the importance of ergonomics. The S22 Ultra is a large phone, and its curved edge design, borrowed from the Note20 Ultra, makes it comfortable to hold and use. The tapered edges allow for a secure grip with one hand, and there are no sharp edges that dig into the hand, unlike the iPhone 13 Pro Max. However, it is important to test the phone in-store and ensure that it is comfortable for your individual needs. Additionally, the Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front and back, along with the Armor Aluminum frame, make the phone durable and resistant to scratches and dings. However, the back of the phone can be slippery, so using a case is recommended if you plan to use it without one.

Aesthetics:

The S22 Ultra is not only functional, but also aesthetically pleasing. Actually, it may be one of the best-looking phones I have ever used. The shape and frame of the phone are visually appealing, and the phantom white color is particularly attractive. The phone also does not pick up fingerprints easily, which is a plus. Other color options, such as burgundy, are also visually appealing, giving users choices to suit their personal style.

Display:

The display of the S22 Ultra is a standout feature of the phone. With a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED display and a resolution of 1440 x 3088, the image quality is outstanding. The display supports HDR and has a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, which automatically adjusts to provide smoother animation and scrolling, while also conserving battery life when viewing static content. The display is also incredibly bright, with a peak brightness of 1750 nits, making it easy to view even in bright outdoor conditions or when dealing with reflections. For those who need the brightest possible mode, there is an option to enable extra brightness in the settings menu under display settings.

Built-in S Pen and Biometric Authentication:

One of the major reasons to choose the S22 Ultra is the built-in S Pen, which offers a nine-millisecond latency for a smooth and responsive experience. Even for those who do not use the S Pen frequently, having it readily available for tasks such as marking up documents or signing is convenient and eliminates the need for a separate tablet. The biometric authentication options on the S22 Ultra, including facial recognition and on-display fingerprint sensor, are also impressive. The fingerprint sensor is accurate and fast, even when the hand is wet, adding an extra layer of security to the device.

Comparison with Competitors and S22+:

In terms of competition, the S22 Ultra stands out with its unique features and capabilities. When compared to other smartphones, such as the iPhone 13 Pro Max or the Z Fold3, the S22 Ultra offers a superior display, ergonomic design, and the added convenience of the built-in S Pen. The S22+ also offers similar features to the S22 Ultra, but without the built-in S Pen and with some minor differences in specifications. It is worth considering your individual needs and preferences while choosing.
